The workshop will take place during the Ancona Jazz Festival. It is aimed to all musicians, with a slight preference for vocalists and melodic instrument players (eg horns).
Its main aim is to help musicians develop their skills in terms of melodic development and harmonic/rhythmic awareness; therefore, no instrument lessons will be given (participants are expected to be reasonably proficient on their chosen instruments). Participants will be playing in front of/together with the instructors rhythm section: Dena De Rose (piano), Jack Lucchetti (bass), Adam Pache (drums).
Applicants are requested to upload a recording of no more than 6 minutes in length containing a rendition of two pieces:
• One Bb or F blues of their choice (for example: Now’s The Time, Billie’s Bounce, Mr. P.C., Birk’s Works, or any Standard Be-bop or Mainstream Jazz blues head)
• One standard song of their choice, preferably in the AABA form, by one of the following composers:
◦ Gershwin
◦ Rodgers/Hart
◦ Porter
◦ Berlin
◦ Van Heusen
Participants will be given a list of songs that will be used as ‘workshop material’ for which they are expected to have gotten familiar with beforehand so as to work-on/play at the workshop.
